Construction notes on the Brandon Muteboard

Assembly:
If you purchased our kit, refer to the parts list and make sure you have all of the components you need to build the kit.

Assembly can be done by personal choice, but you may find it easier to build in vertical height order by installing the shorter components first, followed by the taller ones.

Install all resistors.  Some resistors colors may look 'off'.   If in doubt, use an ohm meter to verify the value before soldering it in place. Be careful of the common colors in 4.7k - 47k - and 470k. They all look similar.

Install the diodes observing polarity. The square pad is the banded end of the diode.

Now install the shorter capacitors. DO NOT install the red capacitors now. Small capacitors are identified as follows: "474" = .47 uF, "104" = 0.1uF, in other words the first two digits are the value and the third digit is the number of zeroes you add to determine the final value.

Now install the two IC sockets observing orientation. The notch end of the socket aligns with the notch in the silkscreen on the board. DO NOT install the integrated circuits yet.

Then install the LEDs (long lead to the round hole).

Now install the transistors (flat to flat on silkscreen).

Install the larger/taller capacitiors - including the red ones. The + of the electrolytic capacitors go into the square holes. The red metalized film capacitors can be installed either way, and so can the NP (non polarized) coupling capacitor C16.

Now install the IC's into their sockets. Align the notch or dot of pin 1 with the notch of the IC socket or dot on the silkscreen of the board.

Lastly - install the DB25F.
