What is it, and what makes it different from our Standard DRAs?
Our Standard DRA's are engineered to be effective and inexpensive. They are offered with or without an
optional snap together plastic case. They have connectors on opposite ends, making it difficult to
install well in a station configuration. They don't have controls with knobs, and are intended to be
set up for a particular radio/application and put out of sight. Conversely - our DRA-100 is
engineered for top performance, looks good, and installs well along side of, or on top
of an elegant station radio.
Features Overview:
The DRA-100 Series doesn't use transformers, therefore, the audio paths are much wider.
The DRA-100-RJ45 has the same RJ45 radio connector as the SignaLink USB.
This allows you to buy Signalink radio cables and "Plug-&-Play" jumper modules, or the supplied
jumper wires. This DRA has an all aluminum case and is fully shielded. Like all DRA's, the Power
LED is also the heartbeat (HB) indicator. A mechanical jumper configures the Power LED to flash
or be on solid. There are audio attenuators to reduce the receive and transmit audio levels when necessary
for certain radios. There's a rear panel mounted speaker jack for connecting receive audio from
some radios. You can expect the same performance from this model as compared to any other DRA.
What's the design based on?
The DRA-100 Series is based upon our top-shelf DRA-80. Unlike our other DRA's with VOX, this one includes
a VOX delay control (DLY) - on the front panel. The delay range is from 0 to 1.5 seconds. The VOX gain
control (R16) is not accessible from the outside, but most people just turn this pot up pretty far anyway.
Of course, the DRA-100 has both C-Media Hardware PTT and VOX keying of the transmitter. VOX operation is
configurable with jumpers. VOX can be (should be) disabled when using Hardware PTT preventing any
unitentional VOX delay.
Okay - really - how good is it?
The DRA-100 Series actually beats all other amplified DRAs in having the lowest noise. If you're
looking for the ultimate FT4 or FT8 interface, this is it. Plus - it goes as fast as any other DRA
easily reaching Level 13 in VARA FM Wide (licensed) with any high-speed data capable ham radio.
