Description - why do we need this switch?
There may be times where you'd want to use a common sound card with two different radios for digital
applications. This switch allows you to easily select a common source (modem / sound card) between
two radios. All signals are switched from the input to the outputs. There is no chance of feedback,
or signal level change due to parallel connections. A high quality 6-pole double throw positive
locking push-button switch is used to make the choice. This switch has silver plated contacts for high
reliability, and switches all six signal lines - including ground. The shield connections are tied
together and to a common ground plane.
The switch is completely passive and requires no power source.
This switch is designed for a DRA, modem, sound card and two radios with female Mini-DIN-6 connectors, and uses our DIN6-Shortie or DRAC-12 cables to make the connections between devices.
While not expressly designed to do so, nothing prevents using the switch to select between two sources and one radio. You simply connect the switch in reverse where the two sources connect to the two "radio" ports and the radio connects to the "DRA" port. Because the switch is a passive device - there is no defined direction of signal flow. It is simply connected - or not. Of course - a mixer might be a better choice in this case, and I have a few to choose from.
Operation:
When the switch is in the normal "out" position, RADIO 1 is selected and connected to the DRA port.
When the button is depressed, it will lock into the depressed position where the DRA is connected to
RADIO 2. Simply depressing the button again releases the switch back to the RADIO 1 selection.
The position is easily detected by how much of the push button is exposed.
About the audio inputs and outputs.
All inputs / outputs are Mini-DIN-6 female connections and are completely isolated from one
another - depending on actual switch position.
